LO2: Article Analysis 4

This article was published on The Sun

The article is talking about a young girl and her best friend who went missing hours after being slashed in her face with a knife by a gang of girls. The article was published on the 20th March although the girls went missing on the 15th March at around 6pm. The location of the article was in Meryside where the girls lived.

The purpose of this article is to inform the C2DE audience of these two missing girls and if anyone sees them to get in touch The mode of address for this article is formal as it is a serious article however there is mostly short sentences to describe the girls about what happened on that day and what they look like etc. "A TEENAGE girl has vanished hours after her face was slashed open in a terrifying knife attack by a gang of girls, her sister claims." this is used to inform the reader on exactly what happened so therefore why she might have gone missing .

The tone of this article is

The headline catches the audience’s attention because it uses a rhetorical question "Where is she?" if people knew where she were then they would get in touch but the writers want the audience to read the article. The Sun makes it sound very serious as it could have been the girls who attacked her who then kidnapped her so it therefore catches the audience’s attention.

The use of emotive language is used a lot through this article as it serious and everyone is concerned for the girls. “Lillie left a letter for her parents but has not been in contact since she was last seen on Wednesday" this empathies sympathy for the families of these two girls as it shows even Lillie wrote a letter to her parents before she went missing and no parents would be happy receiving that just before she goes missing. There is quotes from both parents of the missing girls and family members telling them to come home and that it doesn’t seem like something their children would do (running away) so they are getting concerned.“We are all really concerned for them but we want them to know that we need them home and that they are not in trouble.” and another quote "It’s worrying because Morgan is so laid back and she has never done anything like this before. “It shows from the quotes from their family that they are using formal language incase their daughters read the article and know that their families are worried and want them to come home

There is a lot of imagery in this article as it shows photographs of both girls so is informing the audience of what they look like in case they see them. In most pictures it shows the girls as happy and don’t look like they would need to run away from their home, however the photograph of Lillie with slashes across her face clearly shows her distress of what she is feeling from going through this attack.
