LO2: Article Analysis 3

This article was published on HeatWorld

The article is talking about Lagi Demetriou who reprtedly has 50,000 worth of concentarted cannabis stashed in an apartment he bought with money from Britains Got Talent in London. The article was published on the 6th March and has been one of the main headlines on digital news papers. The fourth pagaragraph states that "fire fighters discovered a watering system for the cannabis plants after being called to the property last Tuesday, when neighbours expressed concerns about a leak then the police was informed."

The purpose of the article is to inform their C2DE audience about the arrest made as it would come to quite a shock to the public as they still see him as the 13 year old Lagi. The mode of address in this article is informal as the structure of the paragraphs are short and dont contain alot of elaborate coding. In this news article i can see the use of short sentences "We are determined to prove his innocence." a quote from a family member of Lagi this type of resiricted coding makes it easy for the audience to understand the situaution. However the Daily Mail then use compund sentences "large amounts of a concentrated form of cannabis, known as 'shatter' or 'wax’," it is informing the reader of what the police found and therefore what the article is about. Also use of jargon is used here as if someone who read this doesnt know about drugs and didnt mention the word "cannabis" then the audience probably wouldnt know what "shatter, wax"  is unless they are in the drug industry.

The headline catches the audiences attention because it says "drugs bust" and relates to Starvros Flatley from the family program BGT and the audience wouldnt relate them to drugs as they look innocent and comedic as shown in their audition.
The use of imagery shows Stavros Flately at their Britains Got Talent audition this shows the audience that we still remember them as the comic dancing duo and wouldn't relate them to drug use. This could also make the audience feel empthay for him because in the picture hewas very young so people still see him like that. However in other pictures of him on the internet it shows Lagi as grown up now and doesnt look like he used to so it shows to the audience that things change.

The use of emotive language catches the readers attention because it shows negative connotations that Lagis family are really upset that the public think he isnt innocent of this act and now Stavros Flatley might not have that reputation as the dancing duo "We are determined to prove his innocence." This quote shows that Lagis father doesnt think he had the cannabis iin the car and wants Lagi to be proven as innocent.
Another reported quote from Lagis father who auditioned with him still thinks he is innoncent although he is deepley saddenned. "The family are so upset, not with Lagi, we know he has nothing to do with this, but with the accusations." He uses emotive language as its shows that his family are upset and has negative connotations of this therefore maybe some readers will have emptahy for Lagi.
