Boy, 10, crushed to death in Topshop 'was killed by falling till display', prompting company to remove them from 300 stores across the country
Published on the 15th February 2017
The article is about a boy who was crushed when a topshop display or jewelllery fell on to him and was laid uncosicuious til around 4pm when the parameics cajme and took him to hospital but then shortly died. The oracle centre topshop will be closed for serveral days and customers were crying over the horrific event. T artciel is saying how the stands will now be ripped out of the over 300 topshop stores shortly so no more accidents happen.

The purpose of the article is to inform the audience about this event and that customers should be careful when in topshop stores. It is also to decribe/report what happened to this litle boy as it says what happened however they are unsure how it fell over.
"A 10-year-old boy was killed by a falling till display in Topshop and bosses will now rip them out of all of its 300-plus stores across the country" Reports what happened informing the audience to be careful around til displays.

"The staff member told The Sun: 'That [one that toppled over] shouldn't be possible as they should be properly fixed to the floor." Shows that the article has two different sides of the story dont know if it is an acident or it is Topshops fault to blame so the article is non biased

The tone of this article is serious as it is talking about a horrific event so it wont sound comedic.
"Kaden was knocked unconscious shortly after 4pm and, despite paramedics’ efforts at the scene, he was pronounced dead at hospital within the hour." They are using formal language as it is a serious event what happened and the audiences should feel empathy for the boy and his family

The Daily Mail uses emotive language it is telling the readers that it was is birthday next month makes them feel more sorry for him and his family., this makes them feel sympathy and also connects the audience more with boy as they are learning more about him thereore feelig a stronger connection towards his death
"At the time of the tragedy Kaden was shopping with his aunt Chantelle Cowley, from Plymouth, who confirmed the death of her nephew who was due to turn 11 next month. "
Theres a Repetition of the word "Topshop" to tell the reader where Kaden got knocked over by the display to inform the audience.

Imagery of the stand what toppled over to show the audience what caused the death of the boy and that customers should take caution.  Also a photograph of the ambulances outside shows it was a catasophic event as there was so many so feel sympathy for not only the family but the customers in the store at the time who saw it happen.

The article is talking about a 10 yr old boy who was crushed to death in a topshop store in reading on the 15th February 2017 it might have happened if the display wasnt fixed to the floor propely they dont know if the stand just fell on him or he pulled it on to himself.

The Daily Mail then uses short sentences like "The shop is expected to remain closed for several days." it is basic on what it is telling you, not much to say about the shop being closed it is just informing the audience. They then use Compound sentences like  'Love you my little man, it's hurting so much xx' two simple sentenes put together this is a quote from the boys parents shows you emotive language
The Daily Mail then uses Complex/ compound sentence- 'Kaden was knocked unconscious shortly after 4pm and, despite paramedics efforts at the scene, he was pronounced dead at hospital within the hour.' Longer sentence structure as it is telling you what was happening at the scene but not in too much detail

On pararaph one it mainly focuses on the main event in short details so just highlighting the main parts so it gets the reader to read the rest of the article if it has an interesting beggining as it does. Also the headline makes the reader want to read it as it is using juxtaposition it is telling you about the boys personality therefore starting off as positive connnotations "loving, cheeky, energetic" but then switches to negative words such as  "crushed, death" this makes the reader feel sympahty so carries on reading the rest of the article to see what actually happnened

In paragraph two it focuses on the why and how so it goes into more detail of what actually happened and more information about it all, the structure of the paragraphs leading on to what happened are usually compound sentences as it has alot of quotes from witnesses and family members, also short sentences just telling you what is happening to the shop as it will remianed closed, as the Daily Mail cant put alot of detail in to what actually happpened becuas nobody knows if Topshop didnt follow the health and safety regulations of the boy pushed it on to himself by accident
    Article 2

This article was published on The Daily Mail.

The article is talking about Americas most hated woman named Casey Anthony, they are talking about her murdered child at her home in Florida. The article was published on the 7th March 2017 to inform the  audience about what was a big case in 2008 now come back to the papers as this was the first time she has spoken out since 2011

The purpose of this article is to inform their C2DE audience about Americas most hated woman. The mode of the address for this article is informal as theres a short simple sentence structure and usually it is bullet pointed so the daily mail uses restricted coding this is because The Daily Mail tend to focus more on celebrity gossip etc instead of something serious like this so their journalists will use the same type of coding. "She told police that her daughter had been taken off my a mysterious babysitter" this is an example of a short simple sentence used in the article, it is basic in what it is telling you and she cant say much because she doesnt know what happened either. However, futher on in the article The Daily Mail uses complex sentences for example "In a rare interview, Anthony admitted she is aware that most of the world believes she killed the child, who vanished nearly nine years ago." this is used to inform the reader of when her daughter went missing also she knows most of the world believe she did murder her daughter but says "she does not 'give a s***' about what people think of her. " This quote does not create empathy for Casey because she is using incogruity language as this is a serious case but her choice of words dont sound positive towards her child but instead negative making it sound like she is over her child being murdered.

The headline catches the audiences attention because it sounds like the mother of the murdered daughter doesnt care by saying "sleeps pretty good at night" the daily mail make it sound like the mother is saying that  in a bad way this is also juxtaposition because the way the Daily AMail have only feautured this part of the interview so the audience would want to read the full article "sleeps pretty good at night" this makes the audience think that she is talking about herself slweeping good at night even though her daughter was murdered but then uses negative emotive language "unfortunate idiots of who lied" to see why she is Americas most hated woman.

In this news article I can tell from the beggining of the article that they are using restricted coding as it is telling you about what has happened how Casey has spoken about her child, however as we get further past paragraph one the article starts talking about Anthonys life  "Anthony now lives with OJ Simpson investigator Patrick McKenna (pair above in February 2016) and says she can empathize with the football star" this is making the reader start to feel sympahty for Casey that her daughter went missing because the audience now know more about her.

The use of emotive language is used alot through this article as it has negative connotations of her dead daughter. "Six years after she was acquitted of murdering her daughter, Casey Anthony maintains she has no idea how the two-year-old died - and says she sleeps 'pretty good' at night." This clearly emphasises symathy for the reader as the mother still says she doesnt know how she died which would make you feel sad for the reader however some people still think she killed her dauhhter even though she was found not guilty. Another reported quote from a news outlet saying 'I'm still not even certain as I stand here today about what happened.' in haltign sober tones. Shows quotes from reports that she is using formal language as she is speaking about something close to her heart.

The use of imagery for example the photograph of Casey posing next to a potrait of her murdered daughter shows her emotions but not what you would think as she has a small grin on her face this connotes why people think she has murdered her daughter nearly 9 years ago. However in an other picture she is smiling up towrads a photo of her and her daughter so some people could think she is thinking of her in a happy way remembering the memroies however other people could think she is smiling out of happiness for getting away with the murder

      Article 3
This article was published on HeatWorld

The article is talking about Lagi Demetriou who reprtedly has 50,000 worth of concentarted cannabis stashed in an apartment he bought with money from Britains Got Talent in London. The article was published on the 6th March and has been one of the main headlines on digital news papers. The fourth pagaragraph states that "fire fighters discovered a watering system for the cannabis plants after being called to the property last Tuesday, when neighbours expressed concerns about a leak then the police was informed."

The purpose of the article is to inform their C2DE audience about the arrest made as it would come to quite a shock to the public as they still see him as the 13 year old Lagi. The mode of address in this article is informal as the structure of the paragraphs are short and dont contain alot of elaborate coding. In this news article i can see the use of short sentences "We are determined to prove his innocence." a quote from a family member of Lagi this type of resiricted coding makes it easy for the audience to understand the situaution. However the Daily Mail then use compund sentences "large amounts of a concentrated form of cannabis, known as 'shatter' or 'wax’," it is informing the reader of what the police found and therefore what the article is about. Also use of jargon is used here as if someone who read this doesnt know about drugs and didnt mention the word "cannabis" then the audience probably wouldnt know what "shatter, wax"  is unless they are in the drug industry.

The headline catches the audiences attention because it says "drugs bust" and relates to Starvros Flatley from the family program BGT and the audience wouldnt relate them to drugs as they look innocent and comedic as shown in their audition.
The use of imagery shows Stavros Flately at their Britains Got Talent audition this shows the audience that we still remember them as the comic dancing duo and wouldn't relate them to drug use. This could also make the audience feel empthay for him because in the picture hewas very young so people still see him like that. However in other pictures of him on the internet it shows Lagi as grown up now and doesnt look like he used to so it shows to the audience that things change.

The use of emotive language catches the readers attention because it shows negative connotations that Lagis family are really upset that the public think he isnt innocent of this act and now Stavros Flatley might not have that reputation as the dancing duo "We are determined to prove his innocence." This quote shows that Lagis father doesnt think he had the cannabis iin the car and wants Lagi to be proven as innocent.
Another reported quote from Lagis father who auditioned with him still thinks he is innoncent although he is deepley saddenned. "The family are so upset, not with Lagi, we know he has nothing to do with this, but with the accusations." He uses emotive language as its shows that his family are upset and has negative connotations of this therefore maybe some readers will have emptahy for Lagi.

      Article 4
This article was published on The Sun

The article is talking about a young girl and her best friend who went missing hours after being slashed in her face with a knife by a gang of girls. The article was published on the 20th March although the girls went missing on the 15th March at around 6pm. The location of the article was in Meryside where the girls lived.

The purpose of this article is to inform the C2DE audience of these two missing girls and if anyone sees them to get in touch The mode of address for this article is formal as it is a serious article however there is mostly short sentences to describe the girls about what happened on that day and what they look like etc. "A TEENAGE girl has vanished hours after her face was slashed open in a terrifying knife attack by a gang of girls, her sister claims." this is used to inform the reader on exactly what happened so therefore why she might have gone missing .

The tone of this article is

The headline catches the audience’s attention because it uses a rhetorical question "Where is she?" if people knew where she were then they would get in touch but the writers want the audience to read the article. The Sun makes it sound very serious as it could have been the girls who attacked her who then kidnapped her so it therefore catches the audience’s attention.

The use of emotive language is used a lot through this article as it serious and everyone is concerned for the girls. “Lillie left a letter for her parents but has not been in contact since she was last seen on Wednesday" this empathies sympathy for the families of these two girls as it shows even Lillie wrote a letter to her parents before she went missing and no parents would be happy receiving that just before she goes missing. There is quotes from both parents of the missing girls and family members telling them to come home and that it doesn’t seem like something their children would do (running away) so they are getting concerned.“We are all really concerned for them but we want them to know that we need them home and that they are not in trouble.” and another quote "It’s worrying because Morgan is so laid back and she has never done anything like this before. “It shows from the quotes from their family that they are using formal language incase their daughters read the article and know that their families are worried and want them to come home

There is a lot of imagery in this article as it shows photographs of both girls so is informing the audience of what they look like in case they see them. In most pictures it shows the girls as happy and don’t look like they would need to run away from their home, however the photograph of Lillie with slashes across her face clearly shows her distress of what she is feeling from going through this attack.

      Article 5
This article was publishes on The Independant

The article is talking about Shona Grice who got her throat cut by her obsessed ex boyfriend as she told police 6 months before it haopened warning him about her then got fined for wasting police time as there was no hard evidence.  The article was publishes on the 19th March to inform the audience about the serious issue of crimes in the UK and for all of them to be taken seriously.

The purpose of the article is to infrom the ABC1 audience about the death of this young girl. The mode of address of this article in formal as it was published on The Independant and is reporting of what happened to this girl and her ex boyfriend. They use paragraphing and elaboarte coding for the higher abc1 audience to understand.

Reported quotes from Mr Lane following the accusations. He said: “I saw her slumped against the bed. She wasn’t moving. I saw blood on the bed and blood on the floor." he is using formal language to make it out like he didnt knwo what was happening althought the trail is still going on people believe that he killed her.

The headline catches the audiences attention as it very negative showing that if the police listened to her and if she had good enough evidence then she wouldnt be dead. The independant clearly empthaisises the effects of what happened as they didnt listen to her also using the word "teenager" makes the audience feel sad for her family as she was just young and had alot more life to live.

The use of emotive language in this article shows negative conntations of death "A teenager who was found dead with her throat slit months after reporting her ex-boyfriend to police was issued with a fine for wasting police time, a murder trial has heard."  shows that at the time is August people didnt kknow who killed her therefore the family was even more distraiuht to why anybody would do this. Also how she recieved a fine and there was no evidence to why she did recieved one makes you feel sympahty for her when she was alive.

The use of imagery shows a photograph of Shona looking very smiley and you wouldnt suspect that she was feeling worried about her ex boyfriend. Another pictures shows Micheal Lane the alleged killer of Shona Grice at the crown courth in Brighton looking quite smug this is one of the reasons why people think he killed Shona
